The Port Arthur Curling Club, now known as the Port Arthur Curling Centre, is a historic not-for-profit curling facility located at 214 Egan Street in Thunder Bay, Ontario. With roots dating back to its founding in 1887 and official opening in January 1888, it’s one of the oldest curling clubs in the Lakehead region. Originally a modest two-sheet rink built by dedicated volunteers, it has since expanded into an impressive eight-sheet facility complete with a welcoming lounge and full bar service .
Over the decades, the club has been a community hub—hosting early women’s leagues, provincial playdowns, national masters and mixed championships, and major events like the Northern Ontario provincial championships in January 2025 . In 2023, a pivotal rebranding renamed it the “Curling Centre” and welcomed its first female president, marking a renewed commitment to inclusivity and community growth .
Today, the Port Arthur Curling Centre thrives by offering inclusive leagues for all ages and skill levels—from youth and mixed to senior and competitive players—while championing programs like the Pride Bonspiel and youth clinics . Steeped in tradition yet forward-focused, it remains a treasured cornerstone of Thunder Bay’s curling landscape, uniting athletes and enthusiasts alike in the spirit of camaraderie, sport, and heritage.
Leagues are for those who want to curl on the regular. Don't have a team? No problem - just buy a house membership and add yourself to the spare list!
